Where San Diego gas lines fail

Buried steel yard lines are the usual culprit. Coastal soil hydrology through the western county keeps that steel in permanently damp, chloride-bearing ground, and external corrosion eats through the wall from the outside in. Inland, expansive valley clay in Escondido, El Cajon and Santee shifts seasonally and stresses risers and threaded joints where the line transitions out of the ground. Older interior black-iron branches loosen at unions under the same slab movement that drives our slab leak detection calls.

How we test

The system is isolated at the meter and put under a calibrated pressure decay test to confirm loss. From there each branch is valved off in sequence to bracket the failing run, and a combustible gas indicator plus soil-probe bar-holing pinpoints buried breaks. Every appliance connection, flex line and union is surveyed before we close the ticket.

Reporting

You receive test pressures, hold times, the located failure point and photo documentation — the paperwork utilities and property managers require before a system is re-lit. Commercial kitchens, multi-unit buildings and retail sites are handled through our commercial leak detection program with after-hours scheduling.
